1. Transparency Is the Specification Here

Most mesh on this site is bought for what it does under something else - a cover, a cushion, a mattress. This article is bought for how it looks with light behind it. The open structure is the point, and the rest follows from it.

Transparency in a warp knit comes from open area: large cells, fine yarns, and a ground that is itself a micro-mesh rather than a solid. The photographs show the result plainly - the hexagonal openings are wide enough for the background to read through, and the cloth still folds without turning opaque.

For a curtain that is a controllable property rather than a single figure. One layer diffuses daylight and softens a view; two layers hold more back. Designers choose fabric of this type because opacity can be dialled in by layering instead of by changing the cloth.

2. A Hexagonal Lattice over a Fine Ground

Look closely and the construction separates into two parts: a fine ground mesh, light enough to see through on its own, and a hexagonal lattice whose thicker ribs read white against the opening.

That lattice is the jacquard. The pattern is knitted in from the same yarns as the rest of the cloth, so the geometry is structural - it cannot peel, crack or print away, and it stays put through washing. Hexagon scale is a design decision rather than a side effect of yarn count, which allows a pattern to be developed for a particular project.

3. Drape Comes from Weight, Width and Hand

Three figures decide how this fabric behaves on a rail. At 200 g/m² it is light enough to move in air yet heavy enough to hang. The width of 220 cm means a full-height panel can often be cut without a horizontal join. And the hand is given as smooth soft - the property deciding whether folds settle into calm waves or stiff creases.

An open-ground warp-knit jacquard usually drapes well, because there is little material to resist bending. In drapery that is the practical edge over an equally transparent woven, which tends to fall in flatter panels.

4. Two Markets, Two Different Jobs

The uses listed here fall into two groups that seldom share a catalogue. Under home textiles there are curtains, cushions, pillows and bedding; alongside them the description names clothing decoration and overlay designs.

They ask different things of one cloth. A curtain is judged on how it handles light, how it falls and how it survives being pulled along a rail. A garment overlay is judged on how it moves with the body and whether it catches on what lies beneath. The open structure serves both, but a buyer should test the one that applies - and say which it is when ordering, since finishing can be tuned to it.

5. One Layer or Two

The photographs make a point that is easy to miss: the same fabric looks transparent in one area and opaque in another. That is not a change of material but of layer count. Where a single thickness lies over the backing the pattern reads; where the cloth is folded over itself the cells overlap and the white ribs take over.

That is what makes the article work in interiors: a two-layer panel for privacy and a single-layer band for diffused light, from one fabric and one purchase order.

8. Certification

The certificate listed for this article is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, renewed annually. Two points are worth keeping straight. The certificate deals with restricted substances - it is what supports the cloth being described as safe for indoor use and skin contact, and it says nothing about environmental footprint. And a certificate attaches to the fabric as tested, so if the shade or the finish changes, the document travelling with the order has to match.

At plant level the certificates cover quality, environment and health and safety management (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001); automotive programmes add IATF 16949, and the Walmart and Sedex social audits run annually.

9. The Manufacturing Behind It

Light transparent jacquard is a fine-gauge job, and the frame list runs from G12 to G28 across RD6, RD7, RDJ5-1 and High Distance double needle bar models - the RDJ5-1 being the jacquard frame in that line-up. More than 250 frames in total, over eighty from KARL MAYER, producing around 900 tons a month, with dyeing, finishing and sewing held in the same group since 1993.

How transparent is it, in measurable terms?

The openings are wide enough for the background to read through clearly, as the photographs show, and the ground is a fine mesh rather than a solid. If a project needs a light-transmission figure - especially for a two-layer panel - describe the build-up and we will test it rather than quote a general number.

Will the hexagonal pattern come off in the wash?

No. It is knitted into the structure from the same yarns as the ground, so there is nothing applied that could be lost. Shade fastness is a separate matter, and the finish is chosen to suit how the panel will be cleaned.

Can the shade be matched to our standard?

Yes. Colour is listed as customer standard, and dyeing and finishing are in our own plant, so a shade can be matched to your swatch and repeated on the next order.
