1. Three Things Set This Article Apart

2. What Lycra Adds Inside a Spacer

Elastane - sold under the Lycra brand name - is what makes a fabric spring back rather than simply give. In a warp-knitted spacer it does something specific: the pile filaments that hold the two faces apart carry tension, so a layer that would otherwise flatten under a body yields slightly and then returns.

That matters twice in bedding. A cover that stretches follows a mattress corner without puckering, and a layer that recovers keeps its height after the compression of vacuum packing and the weight of nightly use.

There are consequences worth stating. Elastane is heat-sensitive, so dyeing and finishing temperatures are managed rather than pushed. And the percentage of Lycra is not quoted on this listing, which is the first figure a technical buyer asks for - we confirm it per order, because a cover that has to stretch over a mattress and a panel that only has to lie flat do not need the same elastic content.

3. Hard Hand Feel Is a Specification, Not a Defect

A firm, dense hand is a deliberate choice. In bedding it means the surface resists compression: the sleeper rests on top of the layer rather than sinking into it, which is what a buyer means by firm support.

Density does most of the work here. At 1,250 gsm with only 20 mm of height, the two faces are tightly knitted and the pile between them is well filled, so the fabric reads as substantial rather than airy.

Hand and height are separate measurements, and buyers often run them together. Two fabrics can both measure 20 mm and feel nothing alike: what a hand reports is how firmly the faces resist, and how quickly the structure yields. That is set by density and yarn rather than by the thickness figure, which is why a hard hand and a soft one can sit in the same thickness band.

This is the wrong choice for a topper that should feel plush. It is the right one where a cover has to hold a flat, taut surface over years of use.

4. What 20 mm of Height Buys

At 20 ± 1 mm the article sits at the top of the 10-20mm band. Height and weight together decide how a spacer behaves: ten millimetres is a cushion, twenty is a structural layer that carries a load and keeps an air path open beneath it.

The costs are weight and bulk. A 1,250 gsm fabric is heavy across a cutting table, and freight follows the kilogram, so a build that uses it should be designed around the layer rather than having it added at the end.

5. The Hexagonal Cell and a Wide Dyed Range

The attribute table gives the cell shape as Hexagon, and the photographs bear it out: the face is a honeycomb of open cells with the pile visible through each one.

Colour is a range rather than a token option. The specification image shows the same construction in white, beige, olive green, blue and grey. These are dyed shades, not prints, which is what allows a brand to carry one colour story across a bedding programme and repeat it on reorder.

How much Lycra is in the fabric?

The listing does not state a percentage, so it is confirmed per order against the application. A cover that has to stretch over a mattress and a panel that has to hang flat do not call for the same elastic content.

Will the firm hand soften with use?

Firmness comes from the density of the knit rather than from a finish, so it does not wash out. Loft can settle under long compression, which is where the elastic content earns its place.
