It is a warp-knitted 3D spacer mesh at 300 g/m2 and 2 to 3 mm thick, in a 150 cm roll. Two listed features - anti-bacteria and anti-pill - concern how the contact surface behaves over time rather than on day one, which is why they are worth explaining rather than listing.

2. Why Hygiene Belongs in the Fabric

A seat is a warm, humid place. Sitting still for two hours puts heat and perspiration into whatever supports the body, and in a car the surface then sits in sunlight - the environment in which odour develops. That is why an anti-bacteria treatment has become routine in automotive and contract seating rather than a premium extra.

The treatment sits inside the fabric rather than being sprayed on the surface, so its effect is not limited to the exposed face. As with any hygiene claim, the level is what matters commercially, so we will confirm the finish on your build against the standard your market recognises.

3. Pilling: the Failure You Notice First

The second listed feature addresses the most common reason a seat cover looks old before it wears out. Every time someone gets in or out, clothing rubs across the seat, loose fibres surface and form small balls, and once pilling starts no amount of cleaning improves the appearance.

An anti-pill construction resists that fuzzing, which matters most where friction is highest: the seat bolster, the front edge of a chair cushion, the armrest line. In fleet and contract seating this is often what decides whether a specification is accepted.

DF7039 is a three-layer sandwich: a top layer with a regular pattern of small perforations, a dense layer of spacer yarns providing the depth that makes the fabric cushion, and a solid backing underneath. Air moves through the full thickness, so breathability is a property of the construction rather than a finish applied later.

At 300 g/m2 the fabric has enough body for a cover that will be cut, sewn and stretched over foam, while staying light enough not to add weight to a programme. It also dries quickly after cleaning, which suits fleet and public seating.

The article comes in a range of neutral and pastel shades - white, peach, pink, grey, light blue and purple among them - and further colours can be matched to your swatch through our own dyeing line. Because the faces are knitted rather than laminated, surface and backing can be set to different tones for a two-tone seat.

• Which performance standard your market applies to the anti-bacteria claim, so the report matches what your customer asks for.
• How many wash or clean cycles the finish must survive, since that changes the finishing route and the cost.
• Whether anti-pill behaviour has been verified on the specific colourway, as darker shades can behave differently.

A seat programme usually needs three levels of certification on file before it can be signed off.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 applies to the fabric range and is retested annually. The factory is certified to ISO 9001 for quality, to ISO 14001 for environment and to ISO 45001 for health and safety, with IATF 16949 covering automotive programmes, and is audited each year under the Sedex and Walmart social compliance schemes. Lot records follow the goods through every stage, so a delivered roll can be traced back to its knitting run.

Nothing about this article is bought in. We knit, dye, finish and - where finished components are wanted - sew it, all on our own sites. That matters for seating programmes because colour approval and finishing are where a supply chain normally slips; kept in-house, a change can be made without renegotiating with a third party.

12. Questions from Seat Manufacturers

Will the anti-bacteria effect last as long as the seat?

That depends on the finish route agreed for your build and on how the seat is cleaned in service. Rather than quote a blanket figure, we will confirm what the treatment is designed to withstand, so the claim you pass on is one you can support.

Can you match a colour to our existing seat range?

Yes. With dyeing in-house, shades can be matched to a swatch or a reference, and the surface and backing can be set to different tones where a two-tone cover is required.

Does it work over a foam seat shape?

The 2 to 3 mm spacer construction gives the fabric the stretch and body a sewn cover over foam needs, and the knit follows a compound curve without the creasing a flat woven produces.
