In practice the light end serves quilting and backing plies, the middle of the band serves covers, toppers and comfort layers, and the heavy end is used where the layer has to carry structure. 2. How wide is the roll, and how many seams will that mean?

The roll measures 86/87 inch, which is approximately 220 cm. For a mattress top or a broad upholstery panel, that width frequently allows the piece to be cut in one pass rather than joined from narrower strips. Removing a joint removes both a visible seam and a point where a cover can pucker or filling can shift.

3. What does the surface actually look like?

It is a vertical stripe. Solid knitted ribs alternate with columns of circular perforations, and a fine micro-mesh sits behind the openings, closed off by a base layer underneath. Two consequences follow. First, the stripe is structure rather than print, so its definition is not lost when the fabric is cut or quilted. Second, the base can be knitted in a deeper shade than the face, which gives the article a two-tone appearance. White is our reference shade, and other colourways are dyed to order.

4. Will it stay flat through quilting and sewing?

This is where warp knitting earns its place. Panels keep their measured size once cut, the knit does not run or distort along a seam, and cover dimensions therefore hold from the first unit of a run to the last. For a mattress line working to tight tolerances, that predictability matters more than any single performance figure.

5. Does the cushioning survive use?

Yes. Spacer yarns are knitted between the two faces, so the layer compresses under a body and then returns to its original loft instead of collapsing. That recovery is what stops a topper from bottoming out, and it is the reason a knitted spacer outperforms a simple flat mesh in this position.

6. How does it behave against skin, and in the wash?

The structure is highly breathable, letting heat and vapour pass rather than build up under a cover. It retains very little water, so it dries quickly; the ribs resist surface pilling; and an anti-bacteria finish helps inhibit microbial growth inside the fabric, which matters for bedding that spends hours in contact with skin. Washing behaviour depends on the finishing applied, so please confirm your protocol with our team before bulk production.

10. When a Stripe Spacer Is the Right Choice

A ribbed stripe article is not the answer to every layer in a mattress. It earns its place where the finished surface is seen and where airflow has to survive a quilted cover. It is less appropriate as a hidden interlayer where appearance is irrelevant, and for very light backing applications a simpler flat mesh may be more economical.
