Large Hole 3D Spacer Fabric - Flame Retardant Air Mesh for Bedding 100% Polyester, Warp Knitted, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, for Mattress Toppers and Children's Bedding
This product is a high-quality 100% polyester 3D spacer fabric, meticulously engineered through a warp-knitting process to create a large-hole air mesh construction. The open-cell, three-dimensional structure promotes exceptional airflow and breathability, making it particularly suitable for mattress applications where temperature regulation and moisture management are essential. The material features excellent wrinkle resistance, ensuring it maintains a smooth, neat appearance even after prolonged use or repeated folding. Additionally, it offers good stretch and recovery properties, providing flexible comfort and shape retention. The fabric has been rigorously certified under the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, guaranteeing that it is free from harmful substances and completely safe for direct skin contact. With its combination of breathability, durability, and certified safety, this fabric is especially well-suited for girls' products, including mattress toppers, protective bedding pads, and children's sleep accessories, where comfort, hygiene, and peace of mind are top priorities.

- Which market's test applies, and whether it applies to the fabric or the finished mattress set.
- Which route delivers the retardancy - a finish, a back-coating, or the fibre itself.
- Whether it holds on the dyed colourway, not only on the greige.
- Whether that route still passes OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 for skin contact.
1. A Title That Makes Five Claims
Titles on this site run long. This one makes five claims, and they are of different kinds. Large hole and stretch describe the knit. Wrinkle resistant and quick-dry describe behaviour in service. OEKO-TEX is a certificate. Girls is a market, not a property of the cloth - and the parameter table adds a sixth: flame retardant.
2. Flame Retardancy and Skin Safety Pull Against Each Other
Fire performance and skin safety are usually sold as two separate points. On bedding they are one problem, because they pull in opposite directions.
Retardancy arrives as chemistry - a finish, a back-coating - or through the fibre itself. Each route adds something, and the established chemistry for slowing ignition is the kind a skin-contact certificate restricts. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 sets limits on a long list of substances, so the route must be chosen with the certificate in view from the start. Which finish was used matters more than the words flame retardant alone.
3. Settle These Before Flame Retardant Goes on Your Packaging
Fire performance in bedding is regulated, not optional, and the test varies by market - in the United States, mattress sets are tested under 16 CFR Part 1632 and Part 1633, while other markets set their own requirements. Before the claim is printed:
4. What the Large Hexagonal Cell Gives, and What It Costs
The cells are hexagonal and open enough to see through. In the photographs the dyed face yarns outline each cell while white spacer filaments show through the opening - the useful way to judge openness, since the structure inside a cell is visible rather than implied.
That buys airflow: air crosses the fabric in three dimensions rather than along its face, which is what stops a sleeping surface trapping heat. It also costs: a large open cell means less surface per square metre, so it is not a substitute for a closed covering, and in a quilted build it needs a backing layer.
5. Wrinkle Resistance Is a Shipping Property
Wrinkle resistance rarely appears on a bedding specification, yet it decides how the product looks in the box. A topper or cover panel is folded, compressed and cartoned long before anyone sleeps on it, and a crease that sets is still there when the customer unrolls it. The same property affects quilting: a panel that creases as it feeds the line produces an uneven pattern, and the fault is sealed in.
6. Stretch and Recovery
Stretch lets a cover follow a compound curve - a mattress corner, the rolled edge of a topper - without the puckering of a flat woven. Recovery is the other half: the fabric must return to its original dimensions after the compression of vacuum packing. Ask for both figures: a fabric that stretches easily but recovers slowly will loosen over time.

8. Colour Is a Dyed Range, Not a Print
This article is dyed rather than printed, and the photographs show the result in pale blue and pale green - pastels in which the cell outline carries the colour while the spacer filaments stay white. For a children's programme that is the practical half of the positioning: colour is what a brand selects, and it must be repeatable on reorder. With dyeing in-house, shades can be matched to a swatch and held across batches.
9. Certification
Three levels of documentation apply. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is held on the fabric range and retested annually - the certificate bedding and childrenswear customers ask for first, because it records the cloth as tested against a published list of restricted substances.
The factory holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, with IATF 16949 covering automotive programmes, and is audited annually under the Walmart and Sedex social compliance schemes. Production records are kept for each run, so a delivered lot traces back to the machine and date that made it.
10. The Manufacturing Behind It
The plant behind DF044Y has been knitting spacer fabric since 1993 and holds the whole chain in-house: knitting, dyeing, finishing and sewing. That is what makes a dyed article workable - colour is approved, applied and controlled inside one business rather than negotiated between a knitter and a commission dyer.
More than 250 double needle bar machines run in gauges from G12 to G28, 80+ of them KARL MAYER, giving output near 900 tons a month. Export is spread across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia.
11. Ordering
DF044Y is made to order, and the build is agreed with you before production rather than taken from a stock list. Commercial terms - minimum run, payment staging, packing and documentation - sit in the Ordering & Terms section below.
12. Buyer Questions
Is the fabric flame retardant, or only the finished mattress?
The feature is stated for the fabric, but bedding fire tests usually apply to the finished product, so the answer depends on the test. Tell us which one applies and we will confirm what the fabric contributes and what the rest of the build must do.
Can the colour be matched to our existing range?
Yes. Dyeing is in-house, so a shade can be matched to a swatch or a reference and held across reorders.
Does the large cell need a backing layer?
In a quilted build, yes - a backing keeps stitches from pulling through. As a ventilating layer it works on its own.
